Session Overview

Funders around the world have an important role to play in motivating action and ensuring accountability for safeguarding in their own organisations and in the organisations they fund. Building on their research, Safeguarding in Philanthropy, the Funder Safeguarding Collaborative (FSC) have been working with a Co-Creation Group of funders, civil society organisations and survivor led organisations to develop a practice standard for funders.

In this interactive session, FSC will share key findings from their research and explore the actions funders and INGOs to build partnerships that are effective in keeping people safe from harm. This will include:

*Ensuring a shared understanding: The implications of safeguarding definitions when promoting safe practice across diverse contexts

*Normalising the conversation: When and how to integrate safeguarding into partnerships, from due diligence, monitoring and resourcing

Meet your speaker:

Karen Walker-Simpson is the Founder and Technical Director of the Funder Safeguarding Collaborative (FSC). Karen started her career working with children in the UK before moving to Ecuador to run an NGO supporting street-working children. Karen spent eight years as a Safeguarding Specialist for international NGOs supporting partners across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Karen launched FSC is 2021, building on the findings of work her doctoral research into the role of international safeguarding standards and donor requirements in keeping people safe.
